Ok, i have a AMD FX-4300 3.8Ghz

its not the beefiest bastard about by any means, but i have had a bit of a fiddle with the over clocking, it can be pretty stable at around 4.5-4.6Ghz  but once it starts to go underload it starts pumping out around about 70c heat.
if anyone else has some tricks with overclocking amd's id love to hear and see some setups.
BUT i mostly wanna hear what is a acceptable temp margins for the AMD FX CPUs, i read some people said keep it below 60, which is why its sitting on a 5% OC atm,

my cooling is done by a H55 Corsair, not very beefy, but it goes alright for a mighty mouse AIO cooler, i beefed it up a little with 2 Corsair SP120 fans to get the airflow shifting (the stock one was a bit above a mouse cough and wasn't doing it for me).

my Mobo is a Asrock 970 Extreme 3 R2.0 so its OC is a bit different and its results i know will vary. but any OC info on settings and TEMP range will be handy, also some suggestions

hahaha iv had my FX for five years. i do set my pwm fans to kick in at 100% after 59C but ive had it run up to 80C stable OC. It pretty much shuts down between 90-95C. I have the FX 8120. Right now with my current case it sits around 50C under load which im quite happy with but in my old case it was very comfortable  to go way over the recommended limit. I only reduced the overclock when I moved to a house that was very hot; over 30C ambient

Who told you to keep it under 60?

thats the specs; its actually 61C

i read it somewhere online, it was either 60 or 70, they said to keep it under, and i thought that seemed a bit "hi how ya going mate".

i always figured it should be more like keep it under 90-100

what would you call a safe margin to work in with temps, i was thinking 75c

i think the recommended temperature is for Western Australia. it can handle more and refuses to die. dies above 90C in Auckland, NZ, but i think that depends on motherboard more than CPU

what Mobo you running there ?
my PWMs are abit... well some are not functioning, so they run all balls all day, (going to get a fan controler to fix this)

in NSW in BFNW (north west), so dry and hot is the go.

i haven't really found anything with OC with asrock boards let alone 970 extreme3's

so my board could factor in here somewhere.

so as long as i keep it below 90 it should be ok

I have the Asus m5a97. I also use a cooler master Z600 which is the heaviest heatsink ever made (AFAIK) with no fans on it. I might need to put a fan on it this summer because I have a new case but today was pretty hot and it did alright.

thought you'd be more worried about your alc evaporating from you beer than your CSGO frame rate

As long as it's under 80°C, everything is just fine.

There shouldn't be any dammage to CPU even at 85 and 90°C, but I would get a bit worried at that point.

Once you have gotten a stable overclock, activate C-States and the Power Saving tools(you should have disabled these when overclocking). Another way to overclock is just adjust the base frequency from 200 to 240 or so, I had a friend who's 8350 refused to go past x22 multi but was able to get a 5GHZ overclock from adjusting the base frequency to around 230 with x22 multi.

a fan controller wont do better than PWM. fan controllers come from a time when motherboards were crap. You can do everything a fan controller can do in a modern BIOS from at least the last six years. What you need is decent air coming into your computer in OZ. Theres stuff all you can do in mid summer Australia; get a heat pump for your living room?

If you're a hippy: evaporative cooling actually might work really well in OZ. it wouldnt work in NZ because we have high humidity. This LTT video was obviously shot in canadia that also has high humidity

activating power-saving/frequency-scaling kills the overclock; the OS reports stock :(. With my FX its either full on over clock or stock and nothing in-between

my PWM isn't really working, i can't get any fan speed readings, not control, its just not working, fans run but no control. i want some control on them, so i can dial them back when i dont need balls to the walls speed and noise,

yeah evap works here, and i could easily make a system like that, thou its a bit excessive, haha.

Your ambient temps will push it to full speed but thats expected when you get above 30C in OZ. I put 6000rpm delta fans from a server in my old core2duo a long time ago; sounded like an airplane taking off. when your in OZ ambient temps you're kinda fucked for silent options
