Access FreeNAS remotely?

Can anybody tell me the easiest way to access my NAS from home? All the tutorials I found seem really complex.

When setting up FreeNAS, you should have been given an IP address to use and should be able to find it through the FreeNAS OS itself.

Yep, thats the ip to get to the web interface. That only works if the NAS and the computers are on the same network... Can't access the files on the nas from the web interface anyway..

So you're trying to access the files from home or out-of-network?

If you're in-network, you can set the NAS as a network drive through your desktop OS. 

If out-of-network, you'll need to obtain a domain that you can call upon.

There is A LOT more to it than this...

 

Leaving your NAS directly exposed to the internet is like picking up your whole house, moving it to the worst part of town, and taking the doors off the hinges. Research VPN solutions - they are a secure (generally they are encrypted) way to put yourself onto your home network and access everything when you are physically outside of your LAN.

Go to plugins, install owncloud. Easiest advice I can give to you. There's a million ways to give yourself access to those files, and there's even more opinions.
