Windows product key

So i recently disassembled a computer from a friend and used the HDD (which had windows on it) to put into a computer for another friend. But since his new computer has an SSD inside it i want to uninstall and reinstall windows (8.1) from the HDD to the SSD. Will i need to reenter the product key for windows when i do a factory reset for the system? After i install it on the SSD (if i can) i will then upgrade to windows 10. 

 

Some knowledge and advice on this matter will be great, thanks.
