PC Just freezes

I have a friend with an Acer Aspire E5-573 that suddenly freezes.

This happens while browsing Chrome after about 10 minutes and while playing BF1 after about 30 minutes.

He uses an external monitor with at higher resolution than the laptop. But I don't see why that should be causing this.

Any guesses to why that might be happening or clues how to find out what is wrong?

Thanks in advance!

To RGB, or not to RGB? That is the question.
