I've been planning on building a system and have created a list of parts that I'll buy, I've been waiting until Black Friday/Cyber Monday to buy these, but have found a deal that may not be beat.

This is my parts list so far, the main piece I'm thinking about changing is the GPU. The GPU on the list is a 6GB GTX 1060 for $338, but I've found a RX480 8GB on newegg that when I include shipping costs $350, should I buy this now or should I wait until black friday/cyber monday and hope that I can find a better deal?

from what I remember, gpu's (new ones at least) don't go down in price that weekend, and if it does it'll be like $10. I personally prefer the 6gb 1060 over the rx 480 8gb. I simply don't see 1080p using 8gb of vram any time soon, but what do I know.

Would either GPU be more 'future proof' than the opposing one?

im just going to edit that if you already read it for tl;dr reasons. I think the gtx 1060 6gb card is a nicer card for the money. the higher clock speed, IMO, compensates the 2gb less vram. If it were my rig I'd pick up a 1060.

that's one of those kind of unanswerable questions. I can give you a small conclusion but then again, nothing is "future proof", it's all obsolete once you buy it, welcome to technology/hardware. however, a good thing to look at for hardware longevity in a gpu is vram. 8gb of vram is a heck of a lot for that pricepoint. gta 5 rips vram to shreds and it just barely pushes that 4gb mark. that also being said, the amount of vram used in gpu's in 2012 (like the 670) was 2gb and that was also a lot. I personally think the 1060 gb is in a better place than the 8gb rx 480. I cant see 1080p games using 8gb of vram in the next 2 years. and the higher clock on the gtx 1060 is pretty nice too.

I understand what you're saying that's why I put 'future proof' in quotation marks :P thanks for the advice, I guess I'll wait and see what prices I can get for the 1060
