Hey all,

I got my mits on an old rig that someone scrambled together. All the parts should be working but its not booting properly.

The components are as follows:

- AsRock Z77E-ITX Mobo

- Intel i5-2500

- Corsair CX500

- Generic RAM, 2*2GB DDR3

- 500GB Hitachi lpatop drive

When I boot it up the psu fan just continuously restarts, with no post. The motherboard Clr CMOS button is also showing up read, not sure if that means anything. There's a possibility the rig was booted with a heat sink sat upon some thermal compound being used as the only CPU cooling, so maybe the CPU is dead?

I've not had any past experience with much of this hardware so if anyone could lend some information that might be useful that would be a help.

Cheers all,

SnowGhost

A short circuit in a component or the motherboard will cause this as well as a bad PSU. Unplug all components and attempt to start it up. If successful then plug in components one by one rebooting after each on until it does not boot. When it does not boot you have found the bad component.

If it reboots immediately even after you have unplugged everything then you need to look deeper.

Did I help you to fix your problem or at least did offer somewhat valuable advice? Consider giving my post a "informative" or "thumbs up".
