Hi I'm studying computer science but my little room (240x350cm) is too cold to study comfortably. Can I rise the temperature of the room with my rig? I have a 970 from msi and a i5 with the stock cooler. I posted it here because what I need is creating all the heat I can and disipating it in my room, hope is the right sub.

I think changing my cpu cooler to a better one and then trying some benchmarks could work.

You can but you can be not as hard on your rig if you get a small portable heater. Don't butcher your computer by running it with lots of benchmarks. Another way is to get a bunch of monitors that run hot and look badass! Here is a nice one that is cheap that I have.

I mean you could but a computer is far from an efficient electric heater.  if you could manage to max out your cpu and 970 you could probably get up to175w of heat being pumped out but you are putting alot of stress on relatively expensive components.

IMO your probably better off going and picking youself up a little electric cube heater from a hardware store.  I've seen 1200w honeywell ones go for 19.99 on sale.

Going this route there are a few advantages.

-Faster heat up

-guarantee you will get the room to a comfy temp

-thermostatic control

-not putting wear on your PC

-more efficient (less cost in electricity)

-probably end up being a quieter solution.

I will say that I use to use my xbox 360 to help heat my room way back in the days of living in my parents basement.  It was actually pretty surprising how much it would actually heat up the room just sitting at the dashboard...

Be wary of personal heaters - often times the sudden change of power in the wall circuit when they are turned on/off can fry motherboards and other PC components. If you are going to go this route, be sure to keep your computer on a very nice surge protector.

ESXi SysAdmin

I have more cores/threads than you...and I use them all

A better cooler won't make your system output more heat.

Using your system as a room heater is viable in that it should be as efficient as the usual space heater but it wouldn't put out as much heat.
