I've heard the power draw from a pc may spike up beyond normal when under load/ instance of stress on the system.

Also, heard psu calculators are unreliable partly due to this and aftermarket designs oc variation and such. (CM.PSU.calc and nvidia says >400W is fine)

My system in progress;

i5-6500

gtx 1060 (coming soon)

550w evga supernova

hyper 212

x3 140mm fans

x1 hdd

x1 hdd + x1 ssd (future)

considering spikes, is 550W enough? ive heard anywhere from 430-700W recommendations

->how large are these spikes have you seen in general? with the 1060 in particular?

first hand experience would be greatly appreciated.

550watt is fine

550W is fine for even a 6700K and 1070/1080. Don't worry; you def. don't need 700W unless you have SLI 1070s

PSUs are made to handle those spikes :)

The Supernova 550W you're looking at will do just fine. You could do on a 450W PSU if it was a good one tbh.

Edit: I say "just fine" too much xD

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here
