Gtx 1070 gpu usage spikes

Hello when ever im playing a game at random points my gpu usage cuts down to 0 and stays around 20 percent for a few seconds when it does this my fps cuts in half. ive checked my temps and it stays around 60 oc i have tried everything such as uninstall and reinstalling drivers turned off my overclock etc but none of this has seemed to fix it if anyone could help it would be appreciated thanks.

it never reaches 100 percent the highest its goes is around 85 on bf 1

Prolly the same issue I had with this 1080. The fact that it isn't trying makes the game unplayable. I'd do a xmp profile or auto overclock on the CPU if you can and turn the resolusion scaling to 150~ and give it a try. Also what program do you use to monitor the gpu?

i use msi afterburner ive actually tried to overclock the cpu but what happends is that when i change the muiltpiler when i boot back into windows it never saves it and if i change the res scaling it lets the gpu get hotter then it starts to spike again but its not temps since it stays below 75

Over clock the CPU through the bios. 

 

Turn the fans up on the gpu. 

Monitor power, usage and all of the limits. Voltage limit, no load limit etc.

May need to swap the battery if the cmos isn't remembering anything. Could be something else though.

GTX 1070 is a 1440p card unless you have a very fast CPU...your CPU is alright and would feed the card fine at 1440p...but not at 1080p.

but why would it cut the fps at 1080 shouldnt it just be able to play fine with 1080 p i dont get why the spikes happen

Because it isn't trying. I have the same issue with my 1080. When I'm on 1080p it gets low fps. When I'm on 1440p the CPU bottlenecks.

ill try it but on some games like ac unity on 1080p the gpu sits at 99 percent and it still spikes

just played some bf 1 and changed res to 1440 p after 10 mins it started spiking again
