Hey everybody!

So I recently built a new PC: Asus Pro Gaming z170, 2x8gb 3200mhz Corsair Dominator Platinum, intel 6700K, MSI Gaming X Nvidia 1070, Samsung 850 evo 500gb SSD.

I had some issues with the components sent (motherboard was damaged in transit) and without going into detail I sent it all back, apart from the Corsair RM 650w PSU and SSD.

I tested the system many times, turning the PSU on and off and swapping components around to make it work, but it always froze. Did clear cmos, 1 stick of ram etc. I had to hard shutdown most times and reset button wouldn't work.

I have since been replaced all the parts and it works absolutely fine. I turned my PSU on and off so many times while testing (with the SSD attached) sometimes every few minutes, adjusting the cpu cooler.

My worry is, could this mess up the PSU or SSD in any way or are they designed to be turned on and off so rapidly? I didn't wait a few seconds before turning back on (I heard this is to let capacitors drain)

Basically I got frustrated and messed around with the system, turning it on and off for ages. Would the lifespan be decreased to SSD or PSU in such circumstances?

Thanks for any input anyone smarter than me may have!

Forced reboots can degrade the life of your systems. However, for things such as SSD's this effect is far less pronounced as it doesn't have physically moving read/write heads, and platters that begin spinning down and spinning up rapidly. But generally speaking you'll be absolutely fine. If you're really worried you can throw a diagnostic card into the system, but likely anything resulting in less of a capacity, on your capacitors is due to static buildup when installing your system if you brushed your Tshirt or coat against the components, or failed to install them correctly. Even in that case you're still fine.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to get back to me on this! It was the first time built everything myself. I was very careful to ground myself while I installing. I have seen people have boot loop problems, where the pc stops and starts every 5 seconds. So, if it does this as some kind of built in thing I guess the problems I had aren't too bad, given what you say. Only real worry is for PSU and SSD anyway.

Thanks for the informed answer. Appeciated! I am learning but I find nothing ever works first time :-)
