Okey so i have a Macbook Pro 15" Retina without discrete GPU.

Since i got it the temps have been insane, but i have been very meh now i have started noticing it again (now i have started using it on my lap again).

at around 21% CPU load it runs at about 75-85degrees, and when i start netflix we go up to 90-100degrees and that is about 30% load.

Any ideas? It is probably not software considering same temps in Mac OS and in winows 10 (boot camp).

I am thinking about trying to change thermal paste but its scary.

Laptops on laps/couches/beds run hot, because the airflow is restricted.

that being said, apple tends to cut down on heatsink size to allow their products to be thinner and lighter, so even on a table, 100% CPU load will make the MacBook throttle most likely.

however, the temps you are seeing do seem to be higher than expected.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BUT: I have seen an ifixit thread where someone had a similar problem where it would run too hot so they drilled holes above the fan and it fixed it but if you actually decide to drill holes in your mac, ruining the value, then good luck and don't drill to far or take off the backplate then drill it lol

it is titled why i drilled holes in my macbook then put it in the oven

Hello! Okay sry for being slow to reply.

This is what i did:

- Removed heat sink and changed thermal paste

- Took out fans and properly removed dust even tough there were almost nothing in them

This fixed my problem i am now running idle between 35-40 and at full load about 60-70
