Mainly gaming, still got the money to toss for upgrading.

I dunno, I just built a system last year with a 4790K, upgraded from a 780 to 1070 last month. You really won't notice much difference and price to performance it wouldn't make sense IMO, but if you want to do it then of course do what makes you happy.

System: i7 4790K, Hyper 212 EVO, 16 GB Crucial Ballistix, GTX 1070 Super clocked, MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition, Corsair RM 750, Corsair 750D (with 2 additional 140mm NZXT fans up top for exhaust.)

I have i7 4790k and GTX 1070.

And I want to upgrade to i7 6800k. But for only one reason: 6800/6850/6900/6950 are soldered to IHS and have lower temps.

That's the only reason why I would concider upgrading to i7 6800k ... if I had pesos lol

If you're mostly gaming, forget X99. It's meant for high performance applications, content creators and workstation machines, not gaming. You will not notice a huge difference going from Z97 to X99 in games, maybe 5 percent.

I am mainly playing bf1 which utilizes mutli core and hyperthreading to full extent.

I honestly dont see any reason to upgrade if you got a 1070. But in my case cpu get's stressed quite heavily since i play on 1440p and its a non k chip. But i'm mainly asking for upgrade advice in regards to which mobo/ram bercause i will be buying x99 regardless of what anyone says against in this thread

It doesn't really:

6700k has 4c/8t, 6600k has 4c/4t. Small performance difference.

idk

I know that people with 6900k's/6950x/5960x etc. are getting somewhat of a leap in perf since there's more cores. But basing my reasoning of solely gaming would be stupid, i like computers, and i wanna have one of the bleeding edge cpu's.

Those extra cores are just gonna be sitting idle most of the time. Games today are built for quad-cores, not 8 cores. Even BF1. Keep the money nearby and buy a new GPU or upgrade to the ix-8xxx or 7xxx series when they come out. Trust me, you won't need the extra cores. Salazar Studio on YouTube bought an X99 machine with a i7-6900k, got it, benched it, regretted it compared to the 6700k. Ended up returning it and buying a 5820k.

I, at one point, wanted to buy a dual-Xeon 2670v1 machine. Total 16cores32threads. But I just game, so I don't really need it. Nothing uses that many cores, not even Premiere Pro.

idk

Already have 2x 1080's i honestly dont have anything else in my system worth wile upgrading, i'll be swapping out the entire pc case to a phanteks enthoo atx, I'll most likely repurpase the old parts for a vive pc in the living room. But the performance gains in 7xxx are just completely pathetic, so i'll probably go for a i7 6850k unless zen tosses something amazing at the market, which i doubt it will.

As I said, the only reason would be because of temps.

My i7 4790K have bad internal TIM and it gets to 80°C on custom water loop.

Meanwhile, uses of i7 6800k CPU, have it soldered by default from Intel, and temps wouldn't even reach 60°C.

And because I have custom loop you can bet that I want to see low temps. So that's basicly the only reason for me to get 6800k. To feel better about temps on my CPU. It might be dumb reason, but hey, that's me :P

x99 xpower titanium is great motherboard so go for it if you like it.

For RAM: well I will recommend you to get at least 4 sticks, so you take benefit of dual chanel. if you can get all 8 ram slots filled, even better :)

Get something from RipJaw 3000MHz and you are good to go. Those rams are often used by Linus and Jay, so they must be good.

Damn son, you got money to burn... :D

But, if you're solely gaming, I don't see the point of upgrading to X99.

I just did 1,25V and 4,5GHz on all cores. Jumped right to 80°C.

At stock it's around 70°C.
