Help with multiple drives

alexly123

To start, I have a 2tb and 1tb hard drive. Not full but partially used. I have a Samsung 950 PRO series NVME drive (500gb). For my OS and all, it's near full.

I'm looking to buy another SSD, but I want to combine it with my NVME drive to make a single drive. I'm planning to later use those two hard drives for another use, so in the end I'll have a single drive made up of those two SSDs.

How can I achieve this without loosing any of my data from my NVME drive? I'm afraid to copy everything over and all.

If I cant do that, how can I use that SSD as a second drive most effectively? Meaning, having some programs in that drive and files there while still having it as easily accessible as possible. I don't want to have to go to that drive and deal with the two so separately, that would get annoying.

You're going to lose so much speed if you put them in RAID.

that's what JBOD (just a bunch of disks) is. you can combine drives together.

idk

more import question is why don't you more some data to the other drives? Games you don't play as much you can move leaving most played games on the ssd.

I would suggest moving my doc, pic to another drive as well as your download folder.

you can install programs to other locations than c if you which just custom install and change the location.

Because I have only a few games on that drive and most of my programs I want at a faster speed. I wont be using those drives for long

so you have all of your data music and such all on the ssd?

tbh you will probably be better storing your important files somewhere then setting up the SSDs in raid 0

second vorticalbox

good future planning on drive space is essential,

my example:

1x250gb ssd OS and Progs

1x250gb ssd games

1x3tb hdd data ,downloads, pics,mu downloads,movies......virtually everything that doesn't have to be read super fast

while my games drive is getting full others are OK

as for bootable raid 0 nvme's , I don't  know if this is possible(google check to see if its been done with your mobo) and if it was "yes" data would have to be cloned off the drive (if nvme is boot device) else copied to new drive and this set as boot device until raid created.

my advice is the same as vorticalbox

move download pics etc off your OS drive onto hdd, setup pathways that your progs use to download too hdd's. once done should free up space and not cause any issues and you save money.
