I have this old 2.5 inch sata hard drive enclosure that has a sata to usb adapter included - i don't really know if the adapter is shit and if i should get a new one, but the main issue is that the hdd in the enclosure is dead - i was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for hdds  - or if it should just get a ssd and put it in there- my main concern is dropping the enclosure and damaging the hdd - will that be an issue if the hdd is off? Any advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks

Hi there :)

What's the brand and the model of both the enclosure and the drive? Have you tried different cables, ports and computers? Have you tried plugging the drive internally? Do you have the drive's S.M.A.R.T. status? Is it seen in BIOS, Device Manager or Disk Management?

I'd try these things and see if the drive has truly failed.

Do you need a portable drive or simply a shock-resistant portable storage? How do you manage your data and where do you need it? Have you considered a NAS?
