I'm interested to learn more about my car wifi options. I own a 2007 Jeep Compass if that makes a difference. I'm also a verizon wireless customer although I hardly use it. VZW is being replaced by Google Voice for me lol. Any ideas about what my options are and where to start would be most welcome. Thanks everyone.

Can you use the hotspot on your phone?

Yes that is a potential option. My next question would thenbe how to circumvent VZW trying to charge me $30 for a feature built into the device. Not sure this is the right place to look for that solution though =D.

What is the advantage to using this over my cellphone? My phone:: https://www.verizonwireless.com/smartphones/samsung-galaxy-j3-v/#sku=sku2080170

You can keep it plugged into USB power all the time and don't have to drain your phone's battery. I'd also keep this in the glove compartment or under the seat or somehow out of sight, places where you wouldn't put your phone. I don't know about this particular make/model but in general you get more control over the settings than you get with a phone. Stuff like hidden SSID, port forwarding and so on. Basic modem stuff that somehow aren't common in phone hotspots. I'd personally get fed up with having to toggle that one tiny setting every time I enter/exit my car.
