Hi ,
I was wondering ,
I have asus k55vm laptop which has i7 3610qm that is going out of use.
So i did a bit of digging and found a supporting qm77 g2 socket miniITX motherboard(jetway) that i would pair with rx480 or a 1060.
So i need atleast an approx. how would it fair up against newer cpus in gaming and is it even a good investment.
Secondly about cooling , i would like to avoid loud laptop like heatsinks ,so what are my options?

Cheers.

Socket looks like square one. So if you can get accurate measurements from holes, we could determine which LGA socket it matches with. Some of those stock desktop coolers will be enough for low power and locked CPU.

Seems like it would be quite near last few gens. of i5s (according to PassMark) and really close with current mobile i7s too (NotebookCheck).

Thans for the replies,

The cpu is not soldered and is removable , as i already removed it once out of curiosity while cleaning dust and reapplying thermal paste.

I was wondering about gaming considering it has quite low frequency..

Apparently the motherboard comes with a cpu cooler as i just found out.

Has anyone else on the forum tried something like this and has it worked for them?

I haven't tried something like this, but I could really imagine that it works. Because, why not? Everything seems legit to me.

My dad did this once with a Core2 Duo T7500, and this worked too.

Main PC: R7 3700X / Gigabyte X570 I Aorus Pro Wifi / Radeon RX 5700 XT / 32GB DDR4-3200 / 250GB & 2TB Crucial MX500 (in HP Prodesk 400 Case)

Laptop: R5 2500U / Radeon Vega 8 / 8GB DDR4-2400 / 500GB SK Hynix BC501 (HP Envy x360 13)

My little Server: i7-7700 / Asrock H110M-ITX / 24GB DDR4-2400 / Samsung 860 Pro 250GB & Seagate Firecuda 2TB / VMware ESXi 6.7

(Don't tell me i should Name them, i don't want to ^^)

it all looks good you could even reuse the laptop ram

It would be more equivalent to an desktop ivybridge i5, should be fine with either gpu though.

How much fps would i loose against lets say i5 6400 with same components?

That depends much of game you are going for. Plus the fact that CPUs don't really show as fps changes when you play GPU heavy games. You might notice smoother experience when CPU isn't at 100% use all the time, but thats about it.

So I've found out that the mounting holes for cpu cooler are 51mmx51mm. Is there a socket that these dimensions equate to? Or atleast come close(for some mild modding).

Zipties... Its smaller than LGA775 which would have been 72mm from hole to hole.
