So I'm a bit confused on where my graphics card can fit in a node 605. I want both drive cages installed so I can have more expansion options, but fractals website says I can only use a graphics card over 255 mm with both drive cages installed when the the graphics card is "in the top two ATX expansion slots." The problem is, my motherboard has a 1x slot as it's first slot, and then a 16x slot. Does this mean that my graphics card (a evga 1060 acx 3.0), which is 267mm won't fit?

It should fit just fine. I've used a similarly sized Gigabyte GTX 960 in a Node 605 and it fit without issues.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Even with the graphics card being shifted down a slot, like this?

Never mind, I see your problem now.

No, in all likelihood you can't fit both a long GPU and the drive cages in there. Looking back on it I remember building this system with one 960GB Sandisk SSD so I didn't need to use the hard drive bay. Is there any chance you could limit yourself to just 2.5" drives for expansion? I myself use a 1TB laptop HDD as my storage drive.

The build is doubling as both a HT gaming  PC, and a NAS for the rest of the house to back up to, and I might even rip some movies to it so I can use it as a media center. So, I need the drive bays for more hard drives (right now I'm getting two 3TB drives). I guess that means that I'm looking for a different motherboard that has a 16x slot as it's first slot. Any suggestions? It needs to be mATX so I can fit an optical drive.

For your 6700k? Z170mx Gaming 5 should do nicely.
