I've been interested in tech for quite a while, but couldn't really afford a good PC, but now that I'm finally earning some cash I've decided to build my first budget gaming PC. I've spent several hours researching and I've come up with a list of parts that I think would be suitable for my needs. I plan on using this system for light software development and playing games such as Battlefield 1 and Watch Dogs 2 (If that the hype lives up to the gameplay) and want to make sure that I'll be able to run newer games for the years to come. I am on a fairly tight budget and don't wish to spend much more than $800 AUD ($615 USD) since that I will already have some components.

The PSU, and SSD I already have so I won't be including them in this list as well as peripherals, but the other components are:

Case: DEEPCOOL TESSERACT SW Mid Tower $53 AUD ($40 USD)

Case Fan: DEEPCOOL WIND BLADE 120 Hydro Bearing $10 AUD ($8 USD)
CPU FanHyper 212 EVO 120mm $45 AUD ($35 USD)

GPU: SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 470 100407NT+4GOCL 4GB $260 AUD ($200 USD)

CPU, Motherboard, Ram Combo: Combo-Deal $377 AUD ($290 USD)
CPU: AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0 GHz
Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3

Total cost: $735 AUD ($564 USD)

I'd love to hear what you guys think about this and what improvements that I should make that would make my first build even better.

The CPU's that AMD offer are alot cheaper than most intel CPU's and I find that the RX line up is actually slightly better than Nvidia if you're on a tight budget, if you have a better suggestion then feel free to tell me.

i would say go for a i3-6100 since you will open more upgrade paths.

hate to tell you mate, the 1060 6gb is way better than the 470. BUT you are correct about the price point in that respect. Although i would of gone with a 6100 or a 6400 rather than the fx 8350 since those two are better than the 8350

I might sound kind of stupid, but the 6400 is a 4 core at 2.7Ghz but the FX8350 is an 8 core at 4.0Ghz, I know that the fx8350 is a much older CPU that's more outdated but wouldn't how much faster it is make it a better deal?

faster speeds dont necessarily make it better. the i3 has HT (hyperthreading) so it would have 4 virtual cores

I get that faster isn't better but does an 8 core 4.0ghz amd cpu beat a dual core intel

Ok, I see what you mean, well is there any other CPU's that have 4 physical cores that would make the system (slightly) future proof?

dont say future proof, there is no such thing. if its strictly amd the answer is really no...

Ok, I'll probably go with the i5-6400, I'll do more research but I'm glad that I found about that before buying it.

The only reason that I was buying the mobo and ram was because of the combo deal, so would you have any reccomendation on what I should buy instead?

Actually, now that I've actually compared the two CPU's I think that the i3-6100 would be the better option

Get an i3-6100 and an LGA 1151 socket motherboard along with it. I recommend Gigabyte's GA-H110M-DS2 (DDR4) or ASUS's H110M-A.
