980 ti Sli questions...

takoofapoc

So had a thread asking if I should buy a 2nd 980 ti, or if I should wait.... I'm an impatient bastard and I bought a 2nd MSI 980 ti Gaming OC ed. on ebay for like 350$. Assuming everything is in working order, and I did not buy a brick.(Seller had 100% feedback and has been on ebay since like 1999). Any problems I might run into? I have a sli bridge (flimsy one), but was wondering if the more rigid bridge types really make a difference? Also, have a Corsair ax 760 watt 80+ platinum psu. Some people think its not enough, but then others said that tdp for sli would be less than people think and that the wattage necessary is often exaggerated. But, if there is a problem with my wattage when I install and enable sli would it at all be dangerous for the rest of my system? Or will it just not post?

should be fine.  It might spike up to 750 or even 800 when starting a game but the psu can handle it.  in game it will be stable - i put my money on the load being somewhere around 600 at the most.

Is the CPU overclocked? It should be fine though. I have a 2500K (4.6GHz OC) and a 980 Ti (1.5GHz OC) and I'm pulling 350-400 watts on Heaven. I'm pretty sure it'll handle SLi just fine. I do hope you have games with proper SLI support. I'm only getting multiple GPUs myself because I torture them for 3D rendering.

Yea me too haha. I just hope games with dx12 are better optimized in the future :/. Also yeah my cpu its oc'd to 4.5ghz, I would be willing to scale it back tho if it mattered.

Meh, that like most calculators are gonna be way off for most. I easily pull 800 from the wall with my main rig. The internet experts say I can get buy with some 800-850 watt psu's. I go buy one and my pc shuts down under load. They tend to forget the basics of electricity. Don't say that psu will work strictly based of wattage when amperage is a factor.

You may be fine with it if your components aren't as hungry as my old stuff.  Cutting it close and it will depend on how long you game. Stress test and monitoring everything will let you know.
