Over Supply?

Hi,

 

I was just wondering if when choosing the right power supply for your new PC build, whether it was possible to oversupply your rig with a power supply that provided more power than you needed? For example if you wanted to future proof your power supply so that if you added more graphics cards or RAM you wouldn't have to upgrade your power supply also?

Depends on what you plan to use and if you would add more gpu. Most people just replace gpu not add them for XF/SLI so they use almost same amount of power and perform better

Your PSU will only provide the wattage that is required by the motherboard. Unless you're getting a crappy Corsair [insert brand] PSU.

Putting a 1500 watt PSU in your computer, while your computer would only use 200 watts @ full load, you will be fine. It just draws the 200 watts. However, power efficiency will be bad. Your electric bill would be higher then when you would get a 300 watt PSU, which has it's peak efficiency around them 200 watts.

The PSU tier list in my sig is a good place to find good PSUs.

TLDR: EVGA G2/GS/GQ, anything from Seasonic, or Corsair's RM/X AX/i HX/i or the new CX x50m PSUs (grey label)

It wasn't just a PSU problem. Problem was alot bigger, that's why they recalled all Note 7's.

Edit: I wasn't saying they made the Note 7's PSU, I was saying they make PSUs that explode like the Note 7.

That's not true. Varies depending on the unit.

Deepcool sells some nice PSUs, I don't know their complete line, but the DQ-ST is quite good.

Actually a motherboard (or any other electronic component for that matter) will never draw more power than it needs, regardless of the quality of the PSU, unless the PSU decides for whatever reason that it wants to provide voltage (which will really only happen with no-name brands).
