Laptop for cad work

Hello everybody,

I am looking to get a laptop for work. I work in Autocad mostly, some 3D, and I am looking to get a laptop that will work great, and isn't crazy expensive. My budget is 1.5 to 2k.  It has to have 17" screen, and look professional. I like MSI GE62VR (I only wish it looked more "clean") , should I get that, or do you have other suggestions.

I would consider the Lenovo ThinkPad W series, with nVidia Quadro inside. It's an Autocad certified machine.

Get something with a proper proprietary dock connector so you can add 2 external full-sized LCDs.

Dell, Lenovo, or HP basically.  Their professional-level machines.

^^ This. I glad we have a dock for external monitors. It makes a big difference.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.

Good catch, last time I looked at their website they still had the W550! Which is AutoCAD certified.

I would still buy a W550/W540 if you can find one for cheap! Otherwise it looks like the P series with Quadro graphics are the way to go, and they are also AutoCAD certified!

You can pick up a P670RS with a 6820hk + 1070. Or get a workstation with less specs and better build and service. Thinkpad P70 comes to mind. Pick it up from Thinkpad Outlet.

The GE62VR does not have a 17in screen. And is subpar to P670RS.

Thanks everyone, I will look into workstation laptops. That lenovo looks promising, HP's and Dells' look good too but cost a bit more. I didn't think of dock capability this would be great to have, again Thanks everyone for your help.
