So I got a refurbished AMD Radeon R7 240 to put in my main machine as a second GPU for doing calculations for Folding@Home and so far it works I don't want to use my i5 4690k and RX480 that's in the machine to do it because the amount of power they consume and I also wanted somthing to do calculations while I worked. Have any of you set up a second GPU or even a entire machine dedicated to Folding@Home?

In the pictures you'll see my RX480 working folding a protein, it was just doing a calculation hat started before the R7 240 arrived and I set it to finish and then once it's done only the R7 240 is going to fold

I have a NAS / Media server at my house, and i have it set up, to do folding@home between 9am and 4pm.

These hours are when i am at work, and the server would just be idling.

Wait... what was the point again? Just that last question?

If so, there are lot's of people that do it. Personally, I don't do F@H, but I do have an old LGA 775 pentium set up just for running Boinc tasks 24/7. My other PCs are also crunching 24/7 as well, though I use them as daily drivers too.

Well for me being currently in New York electricity is pretty expensive so having a PC running 24/7 with a 95 watt CPU and a 150 watt GPU doing calculations is not really good for the electric bill

Isn't it getting cold now, though? If so, then leave it 24/7, PCs are almost 100% efficient at generating heat. Instead of dumping cash into a heater, dump money onto scientific research while also generating heat in the process.

LOL good point, I can easily immagine somone buying a few old GTX 480s or r9 290Xs and folding at home or bit coin mining with them and heating up their room at the same time during the winter

Wow, actually nevermind :P I just checked your mobo and it has 3x PCIe x16 slots! I wanna have one like that! would also love to run both, my GTX 760 and HD6970 but my mobo is too crappy :/

Just looked at the pics of your build and it's really nice. My build isn't as modded as yours and I had a bigger budget for mine so I was able to get the bigger board. Also what CPU and GPU are you using in your PC?

Thank you very much! I am currently using a phenom II 1055T and a GTX 760. It's fine for most games at 1080p and it's mostly crunching for the LTT team now since I dont have much time for gaming anymore. I am actually rocking that CPU for 5 years now, only the GPU and the casemod ar more recent.
