I am stuck with a Asus Impact ITX board with one U.2 connector.

Intel 750 drives are way too expensive for me atm so I want try and connect a NVMe m.2 stick to my U.2 port.

Anyone know of any elegant solutions? Cheap adapters?

Whoops, I didn't realize 850s are only sata.,I Haven't bought one yet so don't worry. Just assume I have a NVMe stick.

LIterally on the Asus web page and first link when you google u.2 port.

http://rog.asus.com/articles/hands-on/intel-750-2-5-inch-ssd-with-nvme-and-asus-hyper-kit/

Sorry all I can see is a U.2 SSD to M.2 adapter not the other way around.

I'm looking to connect a m.2 ssd to a u.2 port and the hyper kit does not do that. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I guess I am looking for something like this:

Jeez, these solutions cost $50 I almost might as well buy a Intel 750 SSD.

Hi there :)

Just a note from me: mind that M.2 PCIe SSDs do come either as NVMe or AHCI. You need your system to support NVMe in order to benefit from these features, otherwise your SSD will work with the AHCI settings. Here's a video explaining the main differences:

Also, mind that using a PCIe expansion card may cause your GPU (if you have one) to work at slower speeds.

Thanks for the info.

My Mobo doesn't even have a second pcie slot.

Just a U.2 port. My dilemma is that Intel 750 drives are just too expensive for me atm. I am liking the price of 950 evo's a bit more.

Hopefully other companies will get on board with U.2.

Maybe I should just get a sata SSD until the prices for U.2 drives decrease?

You are most welcome. :)

If you are not that dependent on the storage's performance and the speeds of SATAIII SSDs are enough it may be the best thing to do at the moment. Adding adapters adds on potential issues with compatibility, cost and drivers.

What is your current setup and what do you do on it?

What storage devices are you currently using?

It seems that besides the U.2 slot you also have four SATAIII ports which can provide up to around 600MB/s speeds for a regular 2.5" SATA SSD which should be good for your type of usage.

Mind that gaming doesn't really rely on the storage's performance of anything else but the loading times and only surrounding textures (the way they load) can be impacted in MMO and Open World games.

I could suggest trying out WD Blue SSD and see if you can get the performance you need if you have space in your case.

I don't have any storage devices for this build yet.  I wanted a U.2 device but they are out of my budget. M.2 NVMe is just in my reach price wise but it'll cause too much problems with adapters.

So I will stick with a Sata SSD for now until U.2 becomes more cheaper.

My case only has 1 or 2 spots for 2.5" drives only.

What case are you using? If you have other 3.5" slots you could use mounting brackets to put a SSD there.

If you need a SATA SSD option I could suggest checking out WD Blue SSD

Let me know if you have any questions!

It looks like a nice case. :) According to the specs it should support three 2.5" drives so you should be fine unless something else is blocking those slots.
