For current games and requirements for them the I3 will perform better due to the higher 'per core' performance, so I would go with that one, along with it having 2 ram dims in the build, dual channel makes a huge difference! 

 

However I would just keep in mind. According to trends and what a lot of people are saying, games are starting to make better use of more cores, thus eliminating most gains from high 'per core' performance. So get the I3, but plan to get something with a quad core later on with a better core performance.

 

Overall I think you are taking the right steps when it comes to getting into building pc's, taking your time and making educated decisions. Keep it up man!

Sorry for the delayed reply XD, The only thing I would really suggest changing with that build is to go with a 2x4 gb ram kit instead of 1x8 gb. dual channel ram makes a huge difference in speed.
