I plugged a 4 pin into my motherboard and it turned on and didn't show anything, (it's an 8 pin) so the i order the 4-8 pin adapter. and i was messing around and took the 4 pin out and tried putting it on and it turned on then off. i then put the 4 pin back on and it doesn't do anything. (a red like next to the big 24 (i think) adapter is on symbolising - +

What are the system specs including the psu, most likely the light means that the cpu isn't receiving enough power because it needs the 8 pin connector, and not an adapter.

 

Check the manual to see what the light means.
