KERNEL POWER WHY !?!?!?!?!

potato_curry

This is happeneing to my PC since the last few days.
NO BSOD, just goddamn reboots sometimes back to back. sometimes once in a month.
The first time it happened i shrugged it off.

Now its a perpetual Cluster**** of reboots. Sometimes when i game, sometimes when i'm doing my projects. Hell, I hope it doesnt crash as I type this !

The following was shown in the event viewer

I honestly appreciate any help. I am not a techwiz so any programs that are to be run will have to be run by someone else, i.e. a mechanic/ software engineer.
THANKS ALL !

Is there any pattern to it or a certain amount of time that has to pass before the cluster attacks?

Because of it's inconsistent nature you need to get information from the event veiwer immediately after a reboot occurs. There are outer a hundred things that could cause this rebooting and without information from the event veiwer after one happens it could take an excessive amount of trial and error and time. Get the information from the event veiwer and post it to zero in on the problem.

Ok... lets go old school.

Last event log you show indicates that the Ready Boot has stopped. Ok lets see if disabling it will stop the blue screens as problems with ready boot can cause the blue screens. Here's how to do this:

Run the "Performance Monitor".

Go to "Data Collector Sets" on the left.

Double click "ReadyBoot" on the right.

Go to "Trace Session" tab.

Remove check mark from "Enabled" box.

Reboot and delete c:\windows\prefetch\ReadyBoot folder.

You will also need to disable the thumbnail caching tool as well for this to work properly:

1: open up the group policy editor (Run: MMC) and open up all users (user configuration>Administrative templates>Windows components>File explorer or windows explorer then turn off thumbnail caching and select ok. close the local group policy editor and restart.

This will stop the ready boot from running and also disable the thumbnail caching which is tied to readyboot and should stop the event problems due to ready boot

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

People do this all the time but I always say this because you are changing the default configuration of the windows OS.

I truly appreciate your help. I wont be risking, taking the above as i am new to computers and paranoid to muck things up.
I spoke to my tech guy who assembled it for me he says we'll have to format the pc and see if the problem persists.

I'm keeping ther thread open till then.

I'm really sorry for taking so much of your time. But i do appreciate your help.

No problem on the time thing. Almost always a wipe / format / re-install will clear up the problem. Windows is kind of like a dust bunny.... over time it gathers so much stuff and it starts to create problems and it needs to be cleaned out or corrected. Sorry that you are having the issue, I am certain that a Re-install will resolve the problem.

Hey ! Its been about two weeks. I got my mobo replaced under warranty, did the wipe/format and the problem still persists.
now i figure its my GTX 960 4GB AMP! Edition by ZOTAC.
The moment i replaced it with my older GPU, the GT 610 (crappy GPU),  The Kernel Power Crashes Instantly Stopped.
Now here's my dilemma. The 610 doesn't require the PCI-E Cables, whereas the 960 requires an 8 and 6x2 PCI-E cable from the power supply to the GPU.
The power supply is a 500W power supply and i assume that it should be compatible with my Graphic Card.

Shorter version of my new question, Is It the GPU (gtx960) or the power supply?

• NVIDIA specifies a minimum of a 400 Watt or greater system power supply. (Minimum system power requirement based on a PC configured with an Intel Core i7 3.2GHz 130 Watt TDP processor.)
• the system power supply must also have a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 28 Amps or greater
• the system power supply should also have at least one 75-Watt 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector. There are some non-reference design cards that require two 75 Watt 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors (e.g. Gigabyte GTX 960 G1 Gaming 2 GB [GV-N960G1 GAMING-2GD REV.1.0], Inno3D iChill Geforce GTX 960 2GB Ultra, etc.) or one 150-Watt 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector (e.g. EVGA GTX 960 SSC 2 GB [02G-P4-2966-KR], MSI GTX 960 Gaming OC 2 GB [GTX 960 GAMING 2G], etc.).

look at the specs on your specific power supply to see if it meets these specs at a minimum.

What brand/model of PSU are you using?

Hi. Thanks. Im using an Artis 500w power supply. Seemed like a good recommendation for the price here in India. And yes, it does meet the minimum.

Also. Its probably not the GPU. It seems to happen on my Gt610 as well.

Now its either my processor or Power supply or my Wall electrical output thats messing up my PC
