Hello LTT comunity!

i just redid my set up and put my aux cable into a big ass amp from like the 1990 - early 2000.

the amp then connects to 4 41x25 cm speakers (they are pretty big)

The problem:

For me to have good audio quality i need to have my system audio set at 4% then the amp can turn it upp really f**king high.

but im looking for a way to cap my systems (windows) global volume to 4% so that 4% becomes the new 100%.

I dont know of any of this made sense but hopefully you understand :)

in the picture you can see the speaker (x4) and the amp is the huge black box in the top right20161030_233751[1].jpg

So what you want is to have your computer at 4% audio so you can turn the audio up and down on the amp??

i want to limit the volume to 4% so that i can still higher/lower the volume on my computer.

cuz now when its set to 4% out of 100% i need to be really presice when i change the volume and i basicly just have 4 states,

Your picture is very difficult to see. Can you take another one of your gear or actually list your equipment? 4% in Windows is very low by any standard. I'm trying to look through your equipment. Do you have pre-amplifier (sometimes called a processor)?

Hmm only way I can think of that is to open the volume mixer and limit the audio of certain programs.

Thank you for the better pictures. By the looks of things you have a processor/amplifier combo and a few separate source components.

Well not to dance around the situation, there is no way to actually limit your volume in Windows, except to set it and forget it.

I'm surprised you're getting so much distortion at low volumes, though. Have you tried the speakers with a different amplifier or receiver to make sure the speakers aren't busted (bad cross overs, etc.).

I understand that. Difficult to tell where the issue is occurring. It's unlikely the amplifier is so sensitive that it is amplifying the signal too much at 4%. Does the amplifier have a menu system? Mine lets me turn up the gain/sensitivity on individual sources. You could try a difficult source to see if has the same signal gain.

no cant find any settings like that on it.

probably better of leaving it at 4%

and what i think is happening is its taking the sound and doesnt to well with the stronger signal streangth that my pc is outputting. And it is old, so it was made in a time where inputs maybe wasnt that strong from any device :/

Set windows output to speakers instead of headphones.

And it's not old. Looking at it, I would guess late 90's, early 2000's

My 1970's amp takes a 100% windows signal fine
