Hiya

I'm in need for a GPU for my planned build and I was wondering which one I should choose.

  • Monitor is an Ultra Wide 1080p (2560x1080) at 75Hz.
  • I would like to play most games at Ultra/Very High (mainly GTA 5 and keeping in mind I have an Ultrawide Monitor).
  • No Blower Style Card

I'm assuming I would be picking between the 460/70/80 and the 1060.

Would appreciate if you can tell me why you chose the specific card instead of just saying one without an explanation.

Cheers :)

At least a 480 or 1060 6Gb.

Edit: A 1070 wouldn't be a bad idea either.

1060 6GB would be minimum, but I'd recommend the 1070.

GTA 5 is hard to run even in regular 1080p, so I recommend the GTX 1060 6GB or higher.

Whaaa? My 770 runs GTA on high settings on 1080p with not much difficulty at all :S

Yeah the GPU market has developed quite a bit since 2013 (as opposed to the CPU market lol)

Yeh it took me a bit of research to get it through my head that every GPU now can kill 1080p games.

Good for me tho, I can save a lot of $ and still play everything I want :D Win-win

I think Id have to get a new power supply to support that, I remember doing some math one day and I dont think it would have been safe with 650W.

Out of your selection 1060 6GB is the best for GTA5.

Asuming you have a powerful CPU (Skylake i5 and above) you'll be hoovering between 100+ to high30's FPS at Ultra (Vinewood is a killer). If your CPU is INTEL and less than mentioned substract some fps from the maximum... the minimum will probably remain the same... if you have an FX... oh god i wish you luck. GTA5 and FX were never meant to be together.

480 will give you -5% minimums and -20% maximum if your CPU is as mentioned. If you have a weak CPU it will hurt even more because of the un-optimized DX11 AMD drivers (it's not amd's fault, it's just their micro architecture is better with parallel async computing than serialized, and DX11 only supports the latter).

470 ibid, but 10 to 15% slower than 480 results. Overclocking and CPU may change those deltas more or less depending on what you have).

460 don't you dare. At that Res, impossible even at high or Powerpoint cinematic gameplay incoming.

i can point some videos if you want to see those numbers in real time, i just did the math for you.

Cheers!
