Sometimes while playing games my screen will randomly brake. It's not my monitor. It's not my gpu overheating. It's not my drivers; they're up to date. It's been going on for a year now. My gpu is a GALAX GTX 980 Hall of Fame. I have a 750w power supply which is more than enough. I have no clue what the problem is and hopefully we can collectively figure it out.

I honestly dont think you have any idea what youre talking about. I dont think you actually read the question. This is rare but often enough to be a problem. ITS NOT DEAD. it works fine in every other way. it might not even be a gpu issue. I can't really test my igpu because it would get like 10 fps in the games that this happens in which wouldnt help at all.

Can you recall what did you do to your computer when this starts on happening?

These are some things that you could do:

1. open command prompt as admin then enter "sfc /scannow" without quotes

2. open command prompt as admin then enter "chkdsk /f c:" NOTE: enter the drive letter of you operating system.

3. do a clean install of your operating system

I currently play PUBG, help me get chicken dinner xD

im just playing a game and it happens. Has only happened in Rust, and only the newest map of H1Z1. The previous map never did it but z2 does. Its only in these two games but they have been some of the games i play the most which is incredibly frustrating. Checking my disk has no relevance to this issue.

try it on another computer if you have one. But I suggest that you a clean install of windows if it is okay for you just to filter the variables that might causing this problem

Have you tried rolling the drivers back to a non-beta (wqhl) one?

Testing with the igpu like @deXxterlab97 mentions would eliminate the monitor as being the cause, even testing it with any other gpu, or just anything that would produce an image on the display and see if the problem occurs.

The last thing it could be is a faulty gpu.

Also download GPU-z, or something to see gpu usage/clockspeeds, and memory usage to see whether it may be a problem if it reaches a certain memory usage, or total usage, and see what is happening to the gpu when the problem occurs.
