Inten Xeon 123v1 vs Intel i7-6600?

Hello everyone,

I just came from a discussion about whether to get the Intel Xeon 123v1 or the Intel i7-6600 (not overclocked) for a streaming/gaming pc, and I wanted more people's opinion.

I'm looking to stream on Twitch while I'm on social media and possibly gaming PC games such as H1Z1 and maybe Battlefield 1, but mostly I'm going to play on console.

Do I go with the Xeon or the i7?

Well...there's no such thing as a Xeon 123v1 or an i7-6600, so I think we need some clarification first. I'm guessing 1231v3 is your Xeon, but are we talking i5-6600 or i7-6700?

If you're on a budget or just want to get the most you can out of the least money, the Xeon on an H81M board is the way to go. If you're willing to open the wallet, the 6700 isn't particularly worth the premium over the Xeon by itself, but DDR4 RAM is.

6700 > 1231v3 > 6600

I was in the same situation and I went with the i7-6700.  I watched this video and saw how much of a benefit Skylake would give me (the Xeon is roughly a i7-4770 iirc)

Yeah it's an E3-123 V3 Xeon and an i7-6700 (I get 6600 and 6700 confused all the time), and I'm kind of on a budget, but I'm willing to go with the i7-6700. I have this list you can take a look at.

Someone said that it was more worth to go and upgrade to a 1070, but I don't know.

This is VERY similar to my build (GTX 980 is a little better than the 1060), if you're doing 1080p it'll be absolutely beast, 1440p will be good.

YES, someone in my situation! I needed that! Thank you, I'll definitely take your advice, are you happy with your choice?

We're kinda offsync on replying lol, but yes I am very happy.  If I were to change anything I'd get a GTX 1060 and some PWM fans (instead of the stock case fans I have)

As I said, someone recommended me upgrading to a 1070.

What's better, a 980 or a 1070?

GTX 1070 is much much better, but I got my GTX 980 CLASSIFIED off of EVGA's B-stock and it was around 300 with shipping.

Part of me regrets spending a thousand, but it's a lot better than my GTX 770 at 1440p and my i7 is better for photo editing

I'm only going 1080p, but I think I'll splash the cash on it. Good it's Christmas soon.
