I'm troubleshooting my grandma's PC I built for her but it's stuck in a loop. After the Windows 10 Logo and loading dots fade, the oc switches to a Windows 7 font and says "Windows is trying to attempt a recovery" and doesn't do anything. I left it on all night hoping it would fix itself but doesn't go anywhere. I cracked open the case and there's nothing loose or disconnected. Would you guys suggest it's a software or hardware problem?

Sounds like a failed upgrade from 7. get all the important stuff off and reload native windows 10 fresh. If you cant get any info off than you will have too acess the drive info manualy by hooking it up to another computer. Don't forget to grab the licence key if you can, but honestly you can get a licence for 10 for 35$ on kinguin.

Tough to call based on that alone. Assuming you have access to another PC, you could run the Windows Media Creation Tool and see if you can repair the OS by booting from that. Any more info you can give? Any recent software installed, updates, anything like that, or was it just more or less random? The way Windows isn't running its startup repair suggests to me that there may be an issue with the hard drive, but without being able to test, there's no way to know for sure. Has it been running slow recently? Any other errors?

Ohhhhhh boy, yeah, that's a failed 7->10 upgrade. From the sound of it, it might require a fresh install of one or the other. You could use the recovery partition assuming the computer is an HP or other OEM, or you could use the Windows Media Creation Tool to install a fresh copy of 10 instead.

I have noticed the hard drive has been running slower than it normally does but it's only about 1 year old. As far as software updates goes, I've haven't done anything to it.

I never did put Windows 7 on there. It originally had Windows 8.1 then upgraded to 10 once available. It's just now started to do this.
