is the bandwith of usb 3.1 enough for an external gpu hub and are there other complications with that an only usb 3.1

you need thunderbolt to do a egpu, usb won't work.

GPU's use pcie, not usb due to the higher speed and lower latency and overhead. Its possible, but much slower and noone has done it.

Thunderbolt can be easily used for this kind of application because it is actually based of pcie
