Hi All!

I would like to buy a new printer, and operate it "from Linux"!

I know that the best choice would probably be a HP because there are drivers (HPLIP).

But I would really like to buy one of the EPSON printers.

Seeing that it is a printer with a network connection, can't I plug it in to the network router, install the Windows drivers into a Windows guest (on a Linux host) virtual machine, and operate it flawlessly like that?

Thanks in advance for any comments/help!

If by "operate" you mean running a print server, I suggest you stay away. CUPS is a nightmare to configure and in my experience things tended to break more often than I would've liked to. Why not getting a printer with an Ethernet port? Brother makes a few nice laser AIOs.

Maybe it's not obvious from my question, what I wanted to say, was:

Buy a printer with an ethernet/wireless interface; connect it to the LAN (network); install Windows as a guest OS in a virtual machine, running on a Linux host system; install the Windows drivers in the virtual machine; operate, meaning, scan and print (through the network) from the Windows guest as if it were a real/physical Windows system!

Does it work like this? Anyone tried it?

Thank you...
