Transition gpu

Zaydoon

Is it true that the transition point between gaming and serious gaming is the gtx1060 3 gb? I saw some benchmarks and I think that is true, are the other higher gpu an overkill , can someone approve/disapprove this by experience. Thank you

Let's define 'gaming' and 'serious gaming' first.

'Fanboyism is stupid' - someone on this forum.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

transition at AMD side is 470

460 is very slow, and even AMD advertises it as DOTA and LOL card

at nvidia side there isnt even released low end anything pascal yet sooo... and also idk about memory cripple, but performance wise, 1060 3gb can run any game without ridiculus settings that bring even 1080 down.

I'd say it's either the 1050Ti or the 1060. Both aren't that far away performance wise, but the Price is fairly low compared to the 1070 and up.

GT 740m can run League Of Legends x) They aren't doing a very good job at selling those cards if they're saying it's good for LoL

gaming and serious gaming ...

GTX 1050 is for 1080p medium settings

GTX 1050 Ti is for 1080 medium-high settings

GTX 1060 is for 1080p ultra settings

GTX 1070 is for 1440p

GTX 1080 SLI is for 4K

GTX Titan X almost for 4K

All those at high-max settings to get 60fps.

But then again it depends on the game.

But dad, what about a single 1080???

OP, the 1060 is a mid-range card. Refer to Simon's lost to get a good idea of the tiers on the current gen Nvidia lineup.

There is no single 1080!

You get 2 of them or go home!

Well GTX 1080 single card is for 1440p on epic-max settings :P

I mean it can do better than 60fps at 1440p, but it can't do 60fps on 4K. So somehwre in between. 1600p maybe?

I woulda got a 1070 but coming from an 820m then a 960 my epeen was small.

I didn't mentiond 144Hz, because I haven't done any testing by myself and I never had 144Hz monitor.

I guess GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 are both good for 1080p 144Hz.

gtx 1080 kills it in 1080p 144hz and in games like BF1, it has 120ish fps even in 1440p. Some games like Tomb Raider or GTA 5 will have less than that but to be fair, 144fps is needed most in fps games anyways

MSI MEG X570 Unify

32GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance

RTX 3080

Dark Base Pro 900

Corsair RM1000i

I do agree with you, but if I say that GTX 1080 is perfect for 1080p at 144Hz, people will asume that it can run any game at 120fps +.

FPS games are not that demanding, so 120fps isn't hard to achieve :)

1050ti is for 60fps ultra 1080p

1060 is for 1080p ultra and higher refresh rates

1070 is 1440p60 ultra

Did you check any of the GTX 1050 Ti review?

It's can't run all games on 1080p at 60fps with ultra settings. Not even 1060 can run all games at those settings lol

Even Linus have review of GTX 1050 Ti running games at ultra settings and  you can clearly see that it can't run at 60fps.

Sure some games will work with max settings at 1080p and 60fps, but not those newest and most popular.
