When I'm watching a video, be it on YouTube or Facebook etc I seem to get a weird graphical glitch on the videos. 95% of the time I find that the video has black squares across it but they appear to vanish after a few seconds of the video has played. The strangest part so far is that I've now noticed It's begun to do it on gifs as well.

It's very random so trying to capture a screenshot of it has been a pain so far so I'll use a comparison and show you what's happening to my image too.

My image: http://imgur.com/iE4iN9R (The left side of the image is clearly not showing properly).

Comparison: Similar to this

Any clue as to what could be causing this?

Video artifacting can mean two things, overheating or bad vRAM. If you are using integrated graphics, run memtest or your favorite memory testing application. If you are using a dedicated graphics, try swapping it for something else, the oldest cheapest thing you have on hand that fits your PCI-E slot will do, and just see if the problem persists.

I'm running a GTX 1080 FE so I'll give Furmark a run and see how it goes. If I don't come to a conclusion would removing the 1080 and just trying the onboard graphics be worth a shot or would I need to find another card I could try in there?

Try on board graphics if you are satisfied with the furmark results and spot nothing out of place, then play videos back and see if the problem persists. If on board graphics show no problems, then yes, you may want to try a different graphics card and check if it shows the problem. If it does, then you may have bad PCI-E and if it doesnt, then your GPU may have a problem.

Well, after running Furmark on my 1080 I've just found that the 'artifacts' are appearing on every single video and gif that I scroll past now, It takes a second but it disappears after. I'm guessing this will tell me if the problem is motherboard(PCI-E) or GPU related?

Make sure all of your drivers are up to date. Make sure you're connected to your monitor with an HDMI cable aswell. Also if it's the MSI version of the card use the MSI gaming app while you're running videos. I've heard there is some weird problems if you don't have it running
