New Microphone Setup Help

Hey LTT,

 

I'm looking to upgrade my Stream/youtube audio quality and I'm stuck between two choices: either going with a USB microphone (blue yeti, Audio technica AT2020) or getting a slightly more expensive EQ set up (Alesis Multimix 4 channel USB mixer or BEHRINGER XENYX Q802USB and something like a Sennheiser E835 mic). Of course I would also need a boom arm (like $20) and a shock mount (would be extra for a blue yeti but comes with some boom arms). Now the USB mics are $100-130, where as the EQ mixer and mic together would be probably $180-200. What would you all say is the better choice?

Based solely on Linus's, Linuses, crap. The video made by Linus, I would recommend the USB option. It seems like it should be good enough for most people.

We use a  Audio technica AT2020 here at Work for User How-To-Videos, The sound is pretty good and I am pretty picky about that kind of stuff. So i can recommend that one. Can say nothing about the other though.

If you're going with xlr mic, then you also need to buy an audio interface for it. So yeti is the cheapest variant.
