Should the SP2500 be modified?

It's good to not have a speaker totally enclosed. Let it have some holes for air to move in and out. You get better acoustics with this because the speaker can move farther with less air pressure behind it

That's not entirely true at all, ported subs don't automatically mean better acoustics.

If the sub & box isn't tuned to be ported, it shouldn't be ported unless you know what you're doing.   Sealed subwoofers are sealed for a reason, and ported subwoofers are ported for a reason.

The driver & woofer itself may not be designed to have immense amounts of excursion due to being ported, and could damage it.

The question is more: Should I make some adjustments like drilling holes to allow air flow for cooling of the speaker.

if you want to ruin your driver, cause chuffing and have it sound like crap, go for it.

sealed subs are more responsive than ported subs, hence why they're better for music.

ported subs have longer decay due to having no vacuum when the driver hits xmax.

ported woofers usually hit higher SPL and sealed usualy have better tonality.
