I've been thinking about doing this for a while and I have the opportunity to do this soon so I was wondering whether or not I should. At the moment the ISP router/modem is in my mothers room and I have no way of getting ethernet to my my room, where my PC is, so I'm having a bit of an issue at the moment. I want to be able to go wired instead of wireless but it kind of seems daunting. My plan is to get a long CAT cable, and drill a hole through the roof of my mom's and my room and just run the cable over the attic. I don't know if I should do this, actually install wall plates, or just forego the whole thing and stick to wireless. This is, however a project I want to do because I'm going to be upgrading my network with a NAS and another access point (the ISP one sucks absolute balls).

have you looked into systems that provide a home network through the power point? I haven't used one but they get good reviews

if you live in a newer home (10 years or newer) than powerline will work best because wiring is much better - if you live in an older home, then don't bother with powerline

It seems like it could be an option, but in all honesty I'd rather not because of the cost. 2 adaptersx20 = 40. I'd rather have a complete LAN solution, but it's not completely off the list.
