DMI (Direct Media Interface) is an Intel technology to connect the processor to the motherboard chip set.

QPI (QuickPath Interconnect) is an Intel technology to connect the processor either to another processor or to the motherboard chip set.

In practice to most users, they both do the same thing.

EDIT: DMI is used for the consumer lineup of platforms. QPI is used for the server and enthusiast lineup of platforms.
