Laptop screen not working

As it states in the title, when I turn on my laptop (Dell Vostro 3555) the screen is completely black, but when I connect it to an external monitor, it outputs video. Not sure what happened, could someone diagnose it for me?

The connector could be loose in the laptop or it's just dead. Open the laptop up that there should be a connector from the screen to the MoBo. May void warranty!!

Agreeing with what Geoff said, if you have it under warranty, send the laptop in for repair (if allowed remove the HDD first) if not, then take it apart see if the connector has come loose, if it hasn't then the screen is dead most likely.

I got it for free from my dad's work, so honestly idc if it voids my warranty, as I think its voided already.

Try connecting a monitor to see if it works.

Fail, Didn't read it fully.  Could be a faulty cable.

then chances are warranty is voided, in that case tear it apart see where it went wrong, learn something and maybe use it as another pc with an external monitor?

Thanks for the help guys, the wire wasn't seated properly. Now it works!
