Hello, I just recently join the community, been a pc gamer for many years. Last time I did a build I knew less then what I do now so I enfed up building a gaming rig around a 3930k putting more money into then I probably should have. Oh well, but now to my question. Would it be worth it to do a full build once the Zen, or Kaby-lake cpus are released, or stick with my 3930 and just do a gpu, cpu cooler upgrade ?

Is there enough new features in the z170 and AMD equivalent Mobo (or the next Gen of mobo) to warrant the change ?

I already plan on switching to a Samsung 850 Evo 1TB for my main storage, (picked it up on sale) and use the 250Gb SSD I got for the boot drive. Any advice ?

Thanks

the 3930k is still an excellent cpu for gaming, just get something like a gtx 1070/1080 instead of a new mobo+cpu.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

It is mostly a gaming rig not much else, and like to play on max or at least high settings. As for the ram I got 32GB already so shouldn't be a problem there.

Now for the gpu, waiting for the 1080Ti compared to just picking up the 1080 ?  With looking back at the 980 to 980ti comparison how much performance difference could we expect ?

I also plan on upgrading to a 3440x1440 monitor later, just for reference.

Probably better off just going with a 1080 for a side upgrade then, it'll push an ultra wide monitor on ultra/mostly high settings just fine sustainably over 60fps.

Put money into better equipment, like you say a monitor or things that'll migrate to a new build in another year or so( such as your ssd's, decent cpu cooler, case). For general pc duty and multithreaded workloads and the like your system will more than likely cope for another couple of years happily.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige
