XFX RX 480 GTR vs Sapphire Nitro+ 480?

handymanshandle

I think the gtr is the best rx480. 2nd best pcb,  best cooler,  dual bios replaceable fans. Perfect really.

Rig Specs:

AMD Threadripper 5990WX@4.8Ghz

Asus Zenith III Extreme

Asrock OC Formula 7970XTX Quadfire

G.Skill Ripheartout X OC 7000Mhz C28 DDR5 4X16GB

The main problem with the Nitro is noise. Heat is not that big a deal for the Nitro once you set an aggressive fan curve. Otherwise, they have similar OC headroom.

Take a look at the PCB videos. If you're gonna push OC, take best PCB, and otherwise the one you think looks the best.

I was just thinking the same

The XFX and Asus strix have the best And most overbuild pcb's

But the strix is waaay overpriced compared to the xfx GTR

Let's agree to disagree

Also the strix cooler sucks on the AMD.

I really don't get how AIBs had a hard time cooling the RX 480 considering it's a 160W card for the most part. I get that more transistor density means worse dissipation of the TDP, but in the days of yore, coolers as big as the ones on the RX 480 did just fine on 250W TDP cards (cough R9 390 cough) and on the 480 they're just, worse?

Perhaps we as consumers are getting more picky about high temps compared to even 2 years ago. I can tell you that my GTX 560Ti can do 1GHz at 1.125V, provided it doesn't go over 85C. Higher temps compromise stability over this threshold, but there's basically no difference between 70C and 80C for the silicon (this is dependent on the specific process and architecture). I guess if you like touching your GPU while it's running then it matters :P

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

If Jayz's video is what you can expect out of a typical card then that thing equals a 1060 basically. By far the best RX 480 and I actually love the looks.

Hmm.

Noise shouldn't be much of a problem at least if the H440 does its job and absorbs sound, I know it's not as effective as an R5/Define S or Be Quiet! case, still.

Normally i'd say Sapphire. But the NITRO series is a big letdown. They are louder, hotter and IMHO, uglier then previous coolers from Sapphire.

XFX nailed it with their GTR edition. They have, BY FAR, the best cooler design for RX 480s (yet)

Personally, I like the way the Nitro+ looks. Though, I mean it is moderately tempting to see an RX 480 perform more like it should've or could've or otherwise closer to 1060 range. Which iirc was like 12% improvement on the performance of the 480.
