First Time Project (Auto)

For all the car guys...

 

I was browsing craigslist, and i found a 1994 Ford Ranger xlt and my stepdad has had one previously and i really liked it. From the craigslist page it says it has 88000 miles 4.0L engine and its automatic... im not like a car guy but i want to get into it. I have been offroading before with my stepdad (Before they broke up) in the UP (Michigan) and really enjoyed it. So I wanted to work on a truck of my own. My favorite vehicle is the suzuki samurai but i cant find a decent one honestly... so my question is is it worth it to get this truck at $1500? And can you guys help me find what parts i need at a somewhat low budget to be able to go offroading kinda successfully. If $2000 is enough for parts ?
