Hi :D

I have a GTX 960 SuperClocked 4GB graphics card. I was running some benchmarks when I noticed that the temp didn't go over 80ºC. In MSI Afterburner I found a temp limit slider, and It wss put to 80. If I put it up to 90 I should get better performance, right? If the temps are locked then the GPU will not be able to run as good as it should because the temps are locked, and the GPU will be stuck there... right? I'm not sure, so I wanted to ask. I also noticed that the power limit went up when I tried to change the temp, but I was able to change it so that the temp limit wouldn't affect the power limit, but I changed the settings back to normal because I didn't wanna break anything. What should I do?

Thanks for reading :)

80c is a good temp and you problaby don't want to run your card running at 90 all the time.

Allowing the card to get slightly hotter will improve your performance to an extent, but once it gets too hot, it will thermal throttle and slow down.

Feel free to max out the power limit in afterburner though because that will allow the card to auto-OC even higher and runs no risk of breaking your card. But I would definitely leave the temp slider at 80...

When in doubt, re-format.

So I should just leave the temp at 80, uncheck the link button and put the power limit slider to max? :)

Just give'r.

Yes, and then play with the clock speeds a little just for fun to get a few more FPS. Going too high will make your system crash, so re-boot and lower the clocks a little when you inevitably crash your system.

When in doubt, re-format.

Oh wait, do you mean the memory clock, or the core voltage? I'm a noob at overclocking :)

I wouldn't mess with the voltage as your temps are high enough already and don't need help from raising the voltage. I was referring to the core clock. You can play with the memory clock (put it to +200) but overclocking the memory really doesn't affect performance in a meaningful way most of the time. The core clock is the main one and you can usually get at least +60 or more depending on your luck.

When in doubt, re-format.

Ok, should I add like 10, click apply, add 10 and so on, or just put it to 200+ right now?

10 is too small a step. try +100 at first, and if it works, just keep bumping it up by like 25 until it crashes. (keep in mind, you should run a stress test like unigine heaven after each overclock) when it crashes, go back down to where it was stable, and keep it there. upping the volts on the card (core voltage) puts slightly more stress on the card by pushing more electricity through it, and may shorten it's lifespan a little, but can also help the card to get to higher clock speeds. most cards have an overvolting limit, so unless you have a custom BIOS, don't worry about putting the overvolt at as much as you can. (most likely +100mv)

Allright, thanks. I think I'll watch a few overclocking guides first, because I have never done this before :)
