upgrade or new build

my rig right now is a i7 4770k, 16gigs ram, 3 256gb ssd, asus deluxe/dual motherboard, GTX 980 TI FTW, and X34 monitor. VR is my thing run both vive and rift and when not doing vr mmo's are my games of choice. Also have a alienware 17r2 that i game on for lan party and on the go.

 

Wife says I have to many toys

 

what should i do

1 sell everything and get uber laptop that can do it all, IE New alienware or MSI

2. build new kabby lake, 1080 system when it comes out

3. upgrade what I have.

Yea you don't really need to upgrade like the other people said it's not like you will gain much performance for what you play, I would wait

The only upgrade I see is 980Ti > 1080, but then it's not even necessary...

only thing really looking at this is the MB is slowing going to trash 2 ram slots out of 4 dont work and the second pci port is dead. replacement MB I have found are $400+

A 4770k? I don't think Z97 boards are that costly quite yet.

Just buy a new motherboard then, an upgrade would cost alot more for little performance

thanks, yeah was really just thinking about the 1080 upgrade for vr but i have not found anything my 980ti cant do

newer and has m.2 support should keep for a could years
