So I leave for basic training end of this month, October 31st and when I come back either after that or AIT training I want to build a new PC. I was thinking should I go with whats available now or wait for the Zen, and Polaris/Vega lines from AMD. My price limit is $1200 and it needs to include a monitor. I will have windows 10 on a HDD that I will want to transfer over to an SSD in the build (not looking for more than a 500gb SSD) These are my ideal builds right now. (breaking the budget up to $50 dollors is not a big deal but start to go over $1250 and I may just ignore your build). If you guys have better builds for the same, or builds that would serve me just as well as the ones below let me know, or if I should just wait for the new Zen line.

My AMD Build

I would much rather have the intel build. Better CPU and no issues that come with using dual cards.

With the Intel Build, the 6600K and the B150 motherboard, you are screwing yourself over.

The B150 is a modified Z170 chip set, that the CPU runs on.

The B150 does not support overclocking, while your CPU does not

This means you are paying extra for the CPU for features you cant use.

Get a Z170 based motherboard, my recommendation for AT,  is the Asus Z170-A

If you dont plan on overclocking your CPU, get a 6600 (Non K) or a 6500

Would that still fit in my price range and are these 3gb edition or 6gb edition? If you click on the PCPartPicker list you can edit the list and then use BB code to paste it right in like mine, and will allow you and me to see the price breakdown.

Look there before buying parts, might find a good deal on a part you planned on purchasing, don't forget Jet.com and their coupons for more money off.

Thanks, I just want to come up  with a I know its in stock for the price list but I could buy parts from there if I find them.

Snip

I don't know much about AMD and what they're doing, but based on their current market offerings you should not make an AMD system. Definitely wait for Zen or not at all. IMO (they have some okay super budgety options, but there is no upgrading the CPU on a dead socket, whereas if you get a skylake i3 , you have all of skylake and kaby lake to upgrade into should you want to do so.

As for your intel build, there are ALOT of things you should change.

1. No reason to get a 6600k without a Z series board. There is also no practical reason to get a 6600k if you are only gaming at 60hz. any skylake i5 will already crush that refresh rate (you could save yourself money on CPU/cooler).

2. No practical reason to spend that much on a CPU cooler when you're not going to see any performance benefits as you're going to be limited to 60 fps.

3. for 90 bucks you should really be looking at an H170 board at least, but probably a Z170 board for future compatibility, even if you don't go a 6600k now.

4. RAM is RAM

5. 250GB probably isn't enough for everything you're going to want to be doing. try for a 500GB drive at least, or maybe buy a 1TB HDD to drop in there as well.

6. 1070 is pretty strong for 1080p 60hz gaming, but giving yourself a little bit of headroom isn't a terrible idea either (i actually have a 980ti with that exact monitor and its nice to be able to run everything at 60 fps all the time... but its not so overkill that you're still able to max out things like AA). a single 1060 would be fine if you wanted to save money.

7. S340 is pretty popular, black and red systems look nice =)

8. Bad psu is bad. You're overpaying for a poor product. get a G2 or corsair unit instead at that price.

9. I have that exact monitor, pretty decent unit IMO.

Here is the build I would make for your budget and future upgrade/expansion options as well as adhering to a black/red theme:

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/3pFNpb

You may want to splurge for a slightly larger PSU if you think you will ever go for some High end SLI system (get a 650W), but other than that this is the system you should be looking to get for black/red interests at 60hz. Someday year/two when you get a better monitor, you can simply upgrade the CPU to a 7700k (flagship Kaby lake CPU) when you get a new monitor and just drop it in. There are a few areas in this build where you could spend a bit less (for example, get a Z170-HD3P or Z170XP-SLI from gigabyte for cheaper black or black/red motherboards, i chose the Gaming 3 mainly for its aesthetic, but it IS also better than those other boards. For the GPU, you could go back to your G1 Gaming card if you want to save a few bucks, or downgrade to a GTX 1060 as that is all the power you need for 60hz 1080p gaming, a 1070 is a bit overkill for that so long as you're not cranking things like AA to full max). You could also just use a stock cooler and not buy an aftermarket one, but that stock cooler is blue and ugly and would clash with your system so i picked a cheap and good looking (and actually decently performing) black one so  it didn't stick out like a sore thumb. but some black spraypaint or tape or something could also fix that for free if you had some laying around.

You can't SLI 1060's. Do not be considering that option.

Yea I understand. Just reminding you. The prices in my list are there because that's what they are.

Well except for the OS and HDD you have. I put those in with a zero price since you already had them.

The only reasoning behind my 500gb SSD is for the OS and games. It'll allow you to have a few games installed on the OS, then if you don't play it no more, just unistall it and make room for the next game.
