anyone know of a good cheap ssd and m.2 i should get? (im thinking of getting these on blackfriday/cybermonday)

Why are you looking for a cheap M.2 SSD? NVMe drives aren't exactly cheap at the moment, and if you're gonna use SATA then you might as well go 2.5".

M.2 SATA is still good if you don't have the space or want a clean build.

well i should have make myself clear on the cheap part. any where between $100-$200 and could i use the m.2 ssd for boots and 2.5" for other stuff? i also have a hdd for bigger application

They're not. SATA M.2 and SATA 2.5" are the same speeds.

M.2 can be SATA or NVMe (PCIe bus is used). The SATA is up to 6Gb/s while PCIe/NVMe can be up to 20Gb/s IIRC.

well im getting the asus z170 deluxe and it comes with the hyper kit would that help?

I don't think it would since the controller is acting on SATA not PCIe.

A SATA SSD will use SATA, an NVMe SSD will use PCIe. The motherboard just tells you which ones you can use natively.
