Video evidence.

My specs:

I7-6700k (stock 4.0GHz)

Z170-HD3

16GB DDR4 (2300MHz)

GTX1070

2 toshiba drives (1TB & 2TB)

Corsair GS600.

Windows 7 (64bit)

Under almost any load at all, the power supply makes that sound, and it's fairly annoying not to mention scary (I built this PC like 3 days ago, it's done it ever since I first turned it on.)

Is this anything to worry about? Or is it just the fan being noisy? The PSU was quite warm when I took the video...

Thanks!

I don't think that's coil whine.

To me the beggining sounds like normal coilwhine but then it converts over to Harddrive at full load noise... or something is stuck in the fan / the fan is hitting something noise.

If you are 100% certain all of these noises originate from the PSU, I'd get a new one, the coilwhine is nothing but that second noise...

...or you open it up and see if the fanblade hits something or the likes. However if you do that, remove the entire PSU out of the PC, make sure you use a non-conductive screwdriver and be very, very, very carefull. + opening it up will void warranty if you still have any.

I'm thinking the major noise is either the fan scraping something, or something is up with the fan motor. My power supply fan in my server makes the same noise occasionally.

Yea, fan scraping I allready posted but the fan motor is actually also a good point aswell.

+come to think of it, the "coil whine" on the video could also be just white noise from the camera, but either way its nothing bad so who cares :P

So in all likelihood, it's nothing serous to worry about?

I have a new PSU on the way, which was going to be part of this build from the beginning but arrived waay behind schedule. (I'd already had to wait nearly a month for the rest of the computer to arrive). I was going to return it and buy some games with the money but if this problem is serious then I will keep it and replace my existing one.

The only problem with replacing the PSU in this machine is the dark rock 3 CPU cooler makes getting to the CPU's power socket on the mobo almost impossible.

I honestly think one of the hard drives is defective, I've had a dieing one in my current rig for a couple weeks (waiting on a Mx300 to replace it) and grumbling is exactly how I would describe the sound.

No, it is something to worry about, kinda.

The coilwhile and/or static noise is nothing to worry abouth but the core issue of this hardcore scratching noise is worrying.

Like I allready posted, to me it sound like either its actually comming from an HDD OR the fan of the PSU is hitting something / something is caught in the fan itself. Both scenarios can result in the fan breaking entirely, which means your PSU will overheat at one point or another, or the fan damagin w/e is caught in it (cable maybe - can result in a circiout short) or the fan at one point or another shooting w/e is caught in it away and damaging something else, or not and fix the issue... In any case, I'd take a good look at it.

Also keep in mind the possibility Godlygamer posted, that its just the motor. But even in this case, if it would be your car motor you would probably go see a mechanic at some point aswell, it might work for the time being but eventually it will break and you might take care of it before it does that and possible cause additional damage.
