Having a dedicated gpu is useful when using certain engineering software like solidworks but in this cases it doesn't matter because you won't find one with a dedicated gpu for 500

You're not allowed to post ebay links.

I think you're misinterpreting the CS/other rules.

In the CS, it's no posting your own Ebay listings as a form of self-advertisement or someone you know.

The Hot Deals subforum has a no Ebay link rule.

It's too hard to police, so it's any and all eBay/trading links. I understand it can be frustrating but there really no exceptions.

That seems like a weird policy to me, especially when it comes to looking for advice on buying used hardware. I guess the CS should be more clear then on the on that topic because the way it is worded now, linking any youtube videos is also banned.

That's what the rule is, and Youtube is another topic, if you want to read the official answer about eBay link from one of the admin;

Find yourself a cheap open box/refurb business laptop.  ie: Dell Latitude E6440, E7440, E7450.  I highly doubt there's anything in undergrad engineering that really needs anything major CPU-wise, and GPU's definitely are not necessary.  Most engineering school these days is spent with software like Excel.
