Hello, so my brother decided that he needs his pc upgraded, so I've got some components for him which he can afford at the moment, a couple are being re-used from his old pc, but they'll get replaced eventually.

So, what I've planned for him is a

6600k cpu, msi z170-apro mobo, 16 gb of ddr4 crucial ballistix sport ram, 212 evo cpu cooler, nzxt source 340 case. I have a 240 gb ssd laying around and will be re-using his r7 360 graphics card by asus and his crappy vs550 series psu. As i said, the psu and gpu will be replaced eventually.

I understand the r7 360 might hold the 6600k back, but how much of a loss are we talking about? Also, he's going to be doing minor video editing, rendering. He's a casual at it, so I don't think he needs a 6700k, unless you can prove me wrong? Would his rendering speed still be decent? It's 1080p 60fps we're talking about for like 15 and less minute clips. His old cpu (fx 6300) rendered a 4 minute video in whopping 2.5 hours..

Sorry this post is so cluttered, typing from my phone is a pain.

The 6600k will be fine but UPGRADE THE PSU. That thing is a ticking time bomb just waiting to fry those new components.

the 6700k has a higher clock with double the logical processors. The 6700k is the better processor for rendering.

how much bottle neck will depend on the title and the settings used. I hate that question. the answer simply is go and find out.
